Fundraiing and the stupid "I can do that" gene

So I am nearing the end of a HUGE fundraiser for my sons school....yeah, I know, WHY would I decide to volunteer to be the one to TRACK, ORGANIZE, and HOLD everything? I will tell you why, cause I am stupid that's why! Why else would I want to turn my dining room into donation central? *heaves huge sigh*...my husband has been nothing but supportive, my son just keeps asking why we have all this STUFF, and I keep saying "only a few more days". The reality of being on a fundraising committee is far more intimidating than one would think. I had volunteered to "organize" the actual Live and Silent auctions thinking, huh! this should be a piece of cake. Well, it's actually the whole freaking cake people! There is the collecting of items, the tracking of said collected items, and the storage of same said items. OK, I can do THAT!....But there is actually a lot more involved....dammit! Like getting parents to actually turn in completed forms! GASP! SIGH! SCREAM! Really, why bother with deadlines when you KNOW most people will actually be running on their own personal schedules?? The event is Saturday, today is Wednesday (closer to Thursday, but who is counting? oh yeah! me!) and apparently some parents seem to think I don't need the items until Saturday...ummm, hello? I have LISTS I need to make, and forms I need to fill out, and, also, I want the stuff before the actual event! REALLY, I want the items before the event. (Trust me, the previous statement bears repeating, like maybe a million times!) Cause after the event my job is SO not over...no there are the THANK YOU letters, to be sent acknowledging the wonderful people and businesses that donated. And, let's face it people in this economy? We really need to make sure EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. is thanked cause they did NOT have to give (key word: GIVE) us anything. Thanks for listening, and I will return in a few days to report that nothing came in late *INSERT HUGE SNORT*, and every person attending helped *EYE ROLL HERE*! But know this, we are incredibly grateful that parents/businesses/individuals helped in some way. And also know that having OCD, I will assure that ANYONE who donated anything will get a letter of thanks, cause that is what I volunteered for right? Goodnight, and happy Fundraising to you all!
